Spatial Information System of the Tajik Pamirs (Pamir Webgis)
Last update:

The Pamir Strategy Project (2002-2003), implemented by the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Berne, under a mandate from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), prepared a detailed and versatile spatial database for the Tajik Pamirs.
Besides being of direct service to the Pamir Strategy Project, the database was designed as shareware for interested users and partners cooperating with SDC. Against this background, SDC requested CDE to develop a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Pamirs, in order to make selected datasets available to a wider audience for viewing, mapping and retrieval.
SDC and CDE hope that this web-based GIS represents an innovative and seminal method of data sharing and exchange, and that it will contribute to informed decision-making in domains such as natural resource management and infrastructure planning.
